History of Snowtalia

I have been involved with dogs all my life, beginning with the poodles that my parents had when I was a small child. When I decided in my early twenties to purchase a dog of my own, the most natural choice for me was a Maltese Toy, as I had fallen in love with them after reading about them in books that my parents had bought me.

My show career began as soon as my first Maltese was eligible, and it didn't take long for me to be bitten by the showing bug. Once this had taken hold, it seemed only natural for me to want to breed my first litter. This produced a lovely bitch who I campaigned steadily and her excellent breeding and quality was rewarded by her winning many competitions, achieving Best Puppy in Show on many occasions, had gaining several reserve CC's.

As a resu1t of my daughter’s ill health my show career had to be put on hold for several years, however, I did continue with my breeding program. As soon as my family had left home, I decided to resume my showing career, and due to my involvement with friends who owned, showed and bred Lhasa Apsos, I decided to purchase a bitch puppy.

After studying the breed and its history, I set about finding a dog to show, and this was when my showing career started to take off.

The result was the purchase of Askja Peter Rabbit at Snowtalia who in his career so far has won:

Best in shows

Reserve best in shows

Best of Breeds and Group wins to numerous to list.

When my bitch became old enough I decided to approach the late Jean Blyth to ask her if I could mate my girl to the famous Ch Saxonsprings Tradition, Jean and Ken gave me invaluable support with my breeding program and Snowtalia Traditional Girl was the result. Although she was lightly shown she proved herself on the breeding side. I then mated her back to her grandfather Ch Saxonsprings Lineka and produced three Quality puppies to show. They have more than proved themselves in the show ring . Unfortunaly  the passing of Jean and Ken meant that those lines are  no more, but  I am still trying to carry on with those lines,  I have been very lucky to have been able to breed dogs from those matings from Trad and Lineka and I hope in yrs to come still carry the type that I like so much .

I have been Secretary of the Christchurch and New Forest Canine Society until family commitments demanded more of my time again.

I am now retired from showing and breeding and also  from the Lhasa Apso Club Committee again due to work and family commitments, having  built and maintain their web site for  four yrs which has now been carried on by another committee member.
